GUM DISEASE

Gum disease (gingivitis) or bone loss around a tooth (periodontitis) is an infection of teeth support structures and is one of the main causes of teeth loss. Smoking and Diabetes are also among the most common factors of gum disease.
The gum disease is usually passive, quiet and painless while it is happening, it cannot be easily identified from the patient. There can easily be no warning signs. Gum disease is caused by plaque, the sticky substance that surrounds the neck of the teeth. Plaque can be mineralized and harden and change to tartar, which migrates down the neck of the teeth.
This can eventually cause the looseness of teeth.

WHAT ARE SYMPTOMS OF GUM DISEASE?

Easily bleeding gums
Red, swollen, sore gums
Recession, gums that have receded from the teeth
The bite of your teeth altering
Persistent bad breath or bad taste
Permanent teeth that are loose or are separating
Proper dental care at home is essential to help to keep periodontal disease from becoming more serious or from recurring.
